According to Ray Kurzweil, the famous American inventor, who is often jokingly called "modern Thomas Edison," mankind has almost come close to the possibility of immortality. As the person behind the creation of the first modern scanner, a text-to-speech device for blind people, a vocal synthesizer, a musical synthesizer and much more, Kurzweil seems to perfectly understand the vector of development of technological trends and is quite capable of predicting further development in various directions. And according to history, as well as the opinion of Kurzweil, humanity is not far from knowing the possibility of a very long life.
In one of the latest episodes of the News Hour television program, produced by the American broadcaster PBS, Ray noted that the death, which he used to describe as "the great thief of relationships, knowledge and meaning," will soon be defeated. The futurist insists that our species is on the verge of opening the “vaccine for the disease of aging” and very soon will open the “path to eternity”.
Given the gigantic steps that mankind has made in the discovery and development of technology in recent years, Kurzweil says that immortality is no longer something infinitely impossible for us. All those millennia, says Kurzweil, which we spent searching for a rational explanation for death, will soon become irrelevant, and we will no longer just have to come to terms with the so-called inevitable fate of a departure to another world. Referring to the "exponential growth of information technology", the inventor also predicts that in the near future we will invent computers the size of blood cells that will move inside our bodies, treat all our ailments and connect to cloud servers. All this, according to Kurzweil, will happen already "in the 2030s."
According to Ray, all this is an integral part of our cycle. In the end, all of humanity in its entire history has truly evolved, significantly increasing the level of life expectancy. And the next step for us is gaining immortality. Within some 10-15 years, the inventor claims, we can find a way to get rid of absolutely all physical failures of our body. Or at least we can no longer depend on our physical capabilities. Part of our thinking and consciousness will be in the cloud, and if necessary, we will be able to restore ourselves in other shells.
“If something is lost, we can recreate it without any problems,” says Kurzweil.
