The Sony Pictures film company has become interested in the camera of virtual reality Nokia Ozo

Nokia has been keen on cameras before - to recall at least its famous Lumia line camera phones at one time - but no one expected that all of this would ultimately lead to the creation of Ozo, a device for three-dimensional virtual reality with the ability to record video in 360 degrees and cost 45 000 dollars. Recently it became known that the Finnish company has signed an agreement with the Sony Pictures film company, which wants to use Ozo cameras to create its VR content. The studio was first very attracted by the opportunity to use the camera for live broadcasts of virtual reality.

There are currently more cool VR solutions on the market that can shoot at a higher resolution. Therefore, at first glance it may seem very strange that Sony, which, by the way, is itself one of the manufacturers of professional cameras, decided to turn to Nokia for its equipment and advice. However, Ozo offers the possibility of live broadcast of VR content, supports its playback in real time via the Oculus Rift VR headset and allows you to quickly switch between the eight cameras used in it. In other cases, it takes a lot of time to combine the footage. Producers sometimes do not even know what will happen in the end, until the picture is repeatedly remounted.

Ozo camera all this simplifies many times. In addition, it allows you to shoot in 4K format and conduct a live broadcast in the same format. The camera can produce a signal that broadcasters can send through standard equipment for working with the UHD format. End users, in turn, can decode it using HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or Gear VR headsets. This, according to the vice-president of Sony Pictures Scott Barbour, allows the camera to fit into "well-established production and work processes and produce recording and live broadcast of VR-content."
