Want to join the augmented reality, but the $ 3000 HoloLens price tag bothers you a bit? No problem! British enthusiasts have figured out how to save $ 2,970, while getting almost full access to this technology. A project called ZapBox was launched on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform just two days ago, but he already managed to collect about half of the designated amount of $ 30,000. So what do we offer for the money? Let's figure it out.
As you understand, free cheese is only in a mousetrap and away. Of course, ZapBox is the most budget-friendly version of the augmented reality cardboard headset for the poor (hello, Google Cardboard!), Based on your smartphone. Paste inside, for example, your iPhone 6, download the free official app from the developers of the headset, pick up paper controllers printed on the printer with black and white patterns printed on them and that's it! You are ready for augmented reality.
Do not interfere also print on your printer and the so-called Pointcodes, which are round black and white paper tags that can be spread out on a table or stick on furniture and walls. So your headset will be able to navigate in space without having expensive sensors that are built into HoloLens. You will have to attach a special lens to the smartphone's camera in order to expand its field of view and improve the degree of immersion in augmented reality.
Today, using the ZapBox headset and two simple paper controllers, you can play on a virtual xylophone, draw three-dimensional pictures, play mini-golf right in the middle of your apartment, explore Mars in a simple educational app, and test your dexterity and sense of rhythm in dance the game. Developers provide free access to the SDK for anyone who wants to create new applications for their headset. So, who knows, maybe in the near future there will be new software.
