The European Space Agency reports that Roskosmos fulfilled all its obligations and fully fulfilled all the agreements in the framework of the joint European-Russian space mission “ExoMars-2016”. Roscosmos was tasked with ensuring the successful launch of the mission with the help of the Proton launch vehicle, which took place on March 14, 2016. In addition, engineers of the Russian state corporation developed the ACS and FREND devices installed and working on the Trace Gas Orbiter, which is in Mars orbit.
“The failure of Schiaparelli is in no way related to the work of the Russian partners, and ESA certainly looks forward to the implementation of further projects in joint missions, both automated and manned,” says European Space Agency head Johan-Dietrich Wörner.
The Schiaparelli landing module was developed by ESA specialists, therefore, work is now under way to identify the causes of failure. After there are no dark spots left in the crash investigation, ESA will transmit all the collected information to Roskosmos, since both parties are interested in continuing cooperation.
In 2020, it is planned to launch the new mission “ExoMars-2020”, during which it is planned to send another landing module to Mars. It became known that its automation complex and power supply system had already been commissioned to manufacture the company Information Satellite Systems named after Academician MF Reshetnev (“ESS”).
