Mankind has long dreamed of getting rid of annoying wired charging for their gadgets. Scientists offer various technologies to implement this idea, but so far there are very few offers on the market that are truly attractive to consumers. The Cota charging station, developed by Ossia engineers, is one such device. The first news about it appeared even last summer, but now the manufacturer assures us that it, finally, should go on sale in early 2017. In the meantime, this did not happen, we invite you to watch a video explaining how an unusual wireless charging works.
Cota consists of a transmitter and a receiver. At the moment, the receiver is made in the form of a cover for your smartphone, but in the future receivers can be embedded directly in the case of gadgets, there would be a desire on the part of manufacturers. In addition, you will have to install on the smartphone the official Ossia application, which allows you to control the settings of the wireless system and always be aware of how the charging of each individual device takes place.
The transmitter looks like a small tower like an Apple Mac Pro, inside which hundreds of unidirectional antennas are hidden from our eyes. The system monitors the surrounding space for the presence of signals from the mobile device (and it emits short signals to facilitate detection) and, as soon as it finds it, it starts sending radio waves at it with a frequency of 100 times per second. You can walk around the room with your smartphone in hand, and it will still be recharged. The charging process works up to 9 meters from the transmitter. At the same time walls can become a serious obstacle for charging.
The Cota charging station can simultaneously charge up to 32 different devices at the same time. This includes not only tablets and smartphones, but also remote controls, cameras that will use special batteries, also developed by Ossia engineers. These batteries are recharged without any problems through the air right inside your gadgets. Wonder Charging will be available in the first quarter of 2017. The cost of her and additional accessories is not reported.
