"Solar paint" is able to extract fuel from the air

It turns out that air can become an almost endless source of energy. And the results of a new study showed this possibility. After all, the air is saturated with solar steam, and the Earth's surface illuminates and warms the sun. And this means that there is always and everywhere an available source of much-needed human civilization, all that remained was to find a way to get it, which was done by the researchers.

Researchers have developed a compound - "sun paint", which can absorb moisture from the air and decompose it into oxygen and hydrogen. The resulting hydrogen can be used as the cleanest type of fuel.

The developed “sun paint” contains a compound that is also a new development, acting like silica gel (silicon gel) used in sachets to absorb moisture, as well as used to preserve food, medicine and electronics in a fresh and dry state.

But, unlike silica gel, the new material, synthetic molybdenum sulfide, also functions as a semiconductor and is a catalyst for the decomposition of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.

Lead researcher Dr. Torben Daeneke of the Royal Melbourne Royal University of Technology (RMIT University) in Melbourne, Australia, explains the essence of the new development.

The researchers found that mixing the compound with titanium oxide particles leads to the creation of a sun-absorbing dye that produces hydrogen from solar energy and moist air.

Titanium oxide is a white pigment, which is already widely used in paints used for painting walls. This means that a simple addition of a composition with a new material can turn an ordinary wall into a structure that “harvests” energy and produces fuel.

As Dr. Torben Deneke notes, the new development has many advantages. A system operating on its basis does not require the use of exclusively purified or filtered water. Fuel using the new technology can be produced in any place where there is water vapor in the air, even in areas remote from water.

Dr. Torben Daneke’s colleague, Professor Emeritus Korosh Kalantar-zadeh (Kourosh Kalantar-zadeh) complements the story of a promising new technology for extracting energy "from the air", once again reminding that hydrogen is the cleanest energy source but also in the usual for a long time human civilization internal combustion engines.

The system based on the new development can be used even in a very dry but hot climate near the oceans. Seawater evaporates due to heat, and the resulting steam can then be absorbed to produce fuel.

Korosh Kalantar-zade believes:

"This is an extraordinary concept - fuel production thanks to the Sun and the water vapor present in the air."

Would paint that would be able to “teach” any surface painted by fuel to be useful to humanity?
