Japanese cargo multicopter loves hugs

Engineers continue to invent new cargo drones, trying to make their design as efficient as possible, easy and suitable for carrying out tasks. Usually they are equipped with a container for transportation - this is a simple, but not without flaws option, because then with the help of a drone it will be impossible to transport a large load, in its dimensions superior box, bolted to the device. It happens and vice versa: the parcel is too small, then the remaining boxing space has to be filled with newspapers and foam plastic, increasing the weight of the parcel. Japanese engineers from Tokyo University were able to get out of the predicament - they developed and presented a drone, which consists of four components and simply embraces the load, adjusting to its dimensions.

Each of the four segments of the multicopter is connected to each other by servo drives, which allow the device to take any shape and capture the object on the go. The demonstration version of the multicopter could grab and transport the cube with a weight of half a kilogram, but if you increase the number of used segments or the power of its motors, you can achieve more significant results.

Previously, the Japanese company showed its modular system capable of turning any object into a drone, and last year, engineers attached a “hand” to the drone, with which he could also carry cargo.
