Amazon has long been pondering how to efficiently organize the delivery of goods using drones. The fact is that constantly planting drones at the customer’s doors is not very efficient and completely inappropriate, therefore, the company's specialists are constantly looking for possible options for quick and safe unloading of shipments delivered by means of drones. One of Amazon’s most recently registered patents is the label turning into a parachute.
In the accompanying documents of the patent there is a detailed description of the invention: a special label is glued on top of the parcel, on which you can write all the accompanying information, as well as stick bar codes and QR tags. But when a parcel is dropped from a drone, the sticker unfolds, turning into a parachute, which, together with special sensors hidden inside the label, will ensure a soft and safe fit for the load.
The parachute cables and the parachute itself will be under the upper layer of the sticker, so the main thing is to pack everything correctly and glue it at the production stage. For the landing of large loads, several such parachutes can be used at once, and the landing is supposed to be softened with the help of special shock absorbers located inside the box.
Amazon decided to use parachutes when delivering cargo to UAVs in winter, but only the concept, drawings and schematic drawings describing the principle of operation of the parachutes themselves were developed, came just recently.
