Yandex specialists have developed a neural network capable of composing music in the style of famous composers of the past. The program analyzes musical works, and then on their basis comes up with their own compositions.
Composer Maria Chernova told RIA Novosti that she met Andrei Sebrant, who heads Yandex’s marketing and services department, with whom they discussed the concept of opening the next YaC conference with live music and technology based on the ideas of Alexander Skryabin, who this year turns 145 years old. So the idea was born to create a musical neural network.
To “instill good taste” of the neural network, the developers “fed” over 600 works of various composers to it. Thanks to this musical preparation, the program was able to write her own work, which was presented at the annual conference of Yandex. The musicians of the chamber orchestra accompanied the program.
Musical neural networks that can independently compose music are also developed by other companies. Earlier, Sony research lab specialists presented their own neural network, which can “write” songs in the style of The Beatles.
