Sluggers can survive the fall of the asteroid and the supernova explosion

Scientists often think about whether people will be able to survive some terrible catastrophe. Well, for example, what will happen to us if a giant asteroid crashes down to Earth from space? Or will the sun go out? People do not have a lot of chances, but there is plenty of them at slow moves - the researchers of Oxford University came to such conclusions after a series of experiments.

The sluggish people are very unpretentious and can survive even in rather harsh conditions. For example, they were somehow frozen for 30 years, and then taken out, unfrozen back and found that they are alive and well, want and, most importantly, can reproduce. They also felt wonderful in other difficult conditions, for example, when exposed to high temperatures and at the bottom of the ocean.

To find out what these amazing creatures are still capable of, scientists from Oxford University have recreated conditions in laboratories that are close to those that may occur on our planet after some kind of disaster. The researchers chose possible scenarios, among which was a supernova explosion, a giant asteroid, and gamma-ray bursts. After a series of experiments, they came to the conclusion that the slow moving seems to have every chance to survive humanity.

It is not enough to wait for an asteroid sufficiently large to destroy a slow-moving asteroid, and a gamma-ray burst capable of killing these invertebrates should also occur close enough to the Earth, which is not yet definitely planned. A supernova explosion must also be strong enough to occur near the Earth, and while the available options cannot harm the slug, after all, they calmly endure fairly strong radiation and can quite comfortably exist at the bottom of the oceans near underwater volcanoes, for example. The sluggers were able to withstand all the scientists' tests, which in turn gave the researchers new food for thought.

“It seems that if life has already begun somewhere, it becomes quite difficult to destroy it,” says Dr. David Slovan, one of the authors of the study.

Scientists noted that their research also indicates the possibility of life on other planets, because if there are such persistent guys on Earth as slow-moving, then what can prevent them from living and feeling great somewhere else?
