India launched a train that is almost entirely solar powered

The ecological situation of our planet, which is deteriorating with each passing year, forces us to switch to more and more economical and non-emitting vehicles. For example, recently Indian Railways experts tested a solar-powered passenger train. According to the experts, which was made to the publication Engadget, this composition will save 21 thousand liters of diesel fuel per year.

Solar panels are located, as you might guess, on the roof of a rolling stock and can generate up to 20 kilowatt-hours of energy per day. The train battery allows you to store excess electricity and use it at night or overcast time of day. Surely many people ask: “Why does the train“ almost completely ”run on solar energy?” The fact is that the whole diesel engine is designed to pull the entire train. On the energy of a single star of the Solar system, only passenger service units will operate: car lighting, information displays, fans, automatic doors and much more.

But even so, fuel economy and environmental care will be very impressive. For example, according to specialists, if all 11,000 trains that run daily on the railways of India are converted to solar energy, this approach will save about 6.3 billion dollars over 10 years. Since the solar-powered train successfully passed the tests, in the next six months, the Indian authorities plan to install batteries for at least another 24 trains and increase this figure in the future.
