Yesterday, the Russian company Yandex officially presented to the world its voice assistant, Alice, which fits perfectly into a number of already existing voice assistants, such as Siri, Cortana and others. Alice today is able to solve a wide range of everyday tasks. For example, suggest the weather, choose places where you can have a quick bite, look for answers to users' questions on the Internet, and much more. But the most pleasant difference between Alice and many other assistants is that she is not limited to a set of questions pre-written in her and can improvise.
For the developers of Yandex, it was very important to teach Alice to understand the natural human language in which we all speak to each other, and also to teach her to cleverly get out of a multitude of unusual situations not provided for, for example, in the same Siri. This is how the world's first voice assistant came into being, not limited to a set of any pre-written patterns. Alice easily copes with laying routes, tells the latest news, manages the media library on your smartphone and, of course, skillfully searches for the information you need on the Web.
What is most interesting, when creating the synthetic voice of Alice, samples of the voice of Russian actress Tatyana Shitova were used. It was she who voiced artificial intelligence, originally voiced by Scarlett Johansson in the Spike Jonze film “She”. She also voiced the sorceress Jennifer in the video game "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt." Currently, Alice's virtual assistant is available in the Yandex application for iOS and Android platforms. For Windows, a beta version of the assistant was also released, but in the future we are promised to expand the list of platforms into which the assistant will be integrated.
