The essence of Hyperloop is simple: it is supposed to deliver goods and transport passengers in capsules through a vacuum pipe. The first test was successful - the device was able to reach a speed of 160 km / h, but in the future, as investors and developers report, capsules flying inside the pipe will be able to compete with an airplane in speed. It is planned that the test site will be completed this year, and capsules will, as expected, be moved along pipe fragments laid around the site.
The idea to create such a transport system belongs to Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla Motors, Musk is sure that vacuum tubes can be used to build a new transport system from Los Angeles to San Francisco, having spent only about six billion dollars on this. Building a railroad, similar in length and functionality, usually costs ten times more.
Representatives of the US railroad department are rather skeptical. In their opinion, Hyperloop is an interesting idea, the effectiveness of which, however, has not yet been proven, so it remains only an idea. Whereas the railway is time-tested, reliable technology, used everywhere for decades.
