If suddenly this year you are going to go to Singapore - try to find an Audi car with the Delphi logo on the streets of the city, because this is one of the first taxi services in the world with cars without a driver, the tests of which have already begun. The moment can be said is historical.
The American corporation Delphi is one of the world's largest manufacturers of automotive components and the main supplier of parts for the concern General Motors. Delphi has been working with the Singapore government since 2014, when a program was launched to develop and implement self-driving cars on city streets. Most recently, an American company received permission to test launch a taxi service in one of the districts of the city.
Test routes are laid through one of the fairly busy quarters of Singapore
Self-managed taxis will move along three fixed routes, the car park at the start of the service consists of six Audi cars. At first, the driver will still be present in the car for safety reasons, but in the case of successful tests in the future, the vehicles will become completely autonomous. Passengers will be able to call a taxi using a special application from their smartphone.
As recognized by the project manager Glen Devo: “If the service is popular among passengers, this could mark the beginning of a new era in the development of the transport system. After all, our technology can be applied in the field of taxi, public transport and cargo transportation, including over long distances. ”
Tests of self-managed taxis will last for three years, and the full launch of the service is scheduled for 2022.
