Remember, at the end of May of this year, we wrote about the insane concept of the Chinese portal bus? Until today, this project existed only in the form of computer renders and animation, however, knowing the Chinese, the implementation of this concept did not take long to wait. Yesterday the first tests of the portal bus TEB-1 took place.
Since the first version of such a vehicle is not yet ready to travel to the main streets of the Chinese city of Qinhuangdao, where it is planned to launch it, the test was performed on a 300-meter closed testing ground with limited traffic and turns. And here it is easy to ask what impresses more: the bus itself or the speed with which it was built?
The length of the bus is 22 meters, the width is 7.8 meters, and the height is 4.8 meters. According to officials, the current version is designed for 300 passengers, but in the future such a machine will be able to transport up to 1,200 people at once and move at speeds of up to 65 kilometers per hour.
The bus itself moves on two supports at the edges, for which, in turn, special rails have been built. The width of the “tunnel” TEB-1 allows two lanes of vehicles to pass through. Thanks to it traffic jams are not created.
How the issue with trucks will be solved is another topic. But given the speed with which this thing was built, it is easy to believe that this issue will be solved in the very near future.
