The German car manufacturer is not going to lag behind its competitors working on the creation of cars on the "energy", so soon plans to release two new models on batteries: the electric Mini and the cross-country vehicle X3, which will also run on batteries.
About the plans of the German auto giant reports the Bloomberg edition, referring to company representatives. Earlier, Reuters reported that the BMW management was skeptical about the release of low-cost electric compact car, because it will have to put a good price tag on it, but it will remain the usual, albeit modern, environmentally friendly "cosmetics on wheels", therefore, most likely, will bring the company less money, while the development of the project itself will cost BMW a pretty penny. Nevertheless, a month later, the press service of BMW announced the company's intention to release two new electric vehicles.
Mini is scheduled for release in 2019, X3 will be released a year later. BMW will have to compete with other manufacturers: the Daimler concern also develops electric vehicles for various purposes, and recently and in Volkswagen spoke about their intentions to start production of electric-powered vehicles by 2021.
The interest of manufacturers to clean energy technology is due to the concern of the EU government about the purity of the environment and efforts to reduce the dependence of transport on traditional fuels. German authorities have previously reported on the development of the program of electric transport and indicated the need to switch to a new type of fuel. By 2030, the country plans to reduce the production of cars with petrol and diesel engines to a minimum, but for now, by all possible means, manufacturers of cars are being stimulated to produce environmentally friendly means of transportation.
