The company suitX, consisting of immigrants from the University of California and the Laboratory of Robotics and Cybernetics in Berkeley (USA), previously presented an exoskeleton (will be available before the end of this year), designed to help paralyzed people to walk again. Recently, the company officially announced the creation of a new exoskeleton, whose task is to help people in the workplace. The novelty is called MAX (from Modular Agile eXoskeleton, Modular Movable Exoskeleton) and provides support to a person during heavy physical work.
The exoskeleton consists of three modular components: one component supports the human back, the other - the shoulders, the third - the legs. If desired, each component can be purchased separately and worn independently of each other. The company believes that the exoskeleton is primarily suitable for those engaged in heavy physical labor, and therefore can find its application in construction sites, assembly lines, shipbuilding, storage facilities, various services for the delivery of heavy equipment and goods, as well as in factories.
Before creating the exoskeleton, suitX conducted a study to find out how effective the use of the modular design would be in such a system, and began with an experiment on a component designed for spinal support. The study found that the module can reduce the load on the back muscles up to 60 percent.
Despite the fact that the new exoskeleton MAX is primarily intended for various industries, the company indicates that the new product will be very affordable. Dr. Hamayun Kazerooni, founder of suitX, comments on:
“We have created responsive and accessible technologies to simplify the work of the workers and, while fully maintaining control over the actions that will be performed using this exoskeleton. MAX is designed with the help of those people who have to perform the same physically challenging tasks every day. It is designed to help avoid workplace injuries as part of these tasks. Firstly, it allows you to carry things weighing up to 35 kilograms without injury; secondly, it allows you to avoid injury from the constant transfer of objects weighing up to 10 kilograms during the day. Without such an exoskeleton, such daily work will certainly affect the health of the worker. ”
