The Chinese Internet search giant Baidu continues to actively develop technologies for self-driving cars and recently conducted a new public test of its unmanned cars. Car models for testing were provided by BYD, Chery and BAIC, also based in China. The test that took place on Tuesday in the tourist town of Wouzhens was open. In other words, anyone - and there were about 200 people in total - could take part in it as a passenger and ride a three-kilometer stretch of way.

The unmanned vehicles were equipped with Velodyne LiDAR autonomous control systems, several video cameras, a shortwave radar and a computer system to process all incoming information. All these things were designed and installed on the machines by the company itself. Cars equipped with such systems can independently change the lane, follow the rules of road marking, stop at intersections and even turn on them. The maximum speed of the cars was limited to 60 kilometers per hour in accordance with applicable local law.

In case of unforeseen circumstances, there is a person in the driver's seat ready to take over the control of the car. However, they did not hold hands on the wheel, according to information provided by Baidu. In the cabin of each car, there was also a digital display, providing passengers with various information, including the state of congestion and the presence of other objects throughout the journey.

Baidu has set itself the task of releasing the first commercial self-driving cars on the country's roads in 2018 and the transition to more mass production by 2021. In general, the company shows great progress in the development of technology of unmanned vehicles, especially when you consider that Baidu started working in this direction in December 2015. After a short time, the company reported on successful trials in Beijing.

To date, Baidu is also testing its technology in California (USA), after it received a permit earlier this year.
