The Japan Aerospace Agency (JAXA) reports that on Sunday, January 15, at 02:30 Moscow time, the world's smallest rocket from the Utinoura space center was launched. On board the carrier rocket SS-520 was a telecommunications satellite. Initially, the launch was scheduled for January 11, but it had to be postponed due to bad weather, which could spoil the launch. Unfortunately, the launch postponed to January 15 ended in failure. JAXA specialists stopped receiving data from the rocket after only a few minutes, and a little later they recorded a drop in the rocket with a satellite on board at sea.
The launch vehicle was really very miniature: its length is only 9.5 meters, diameter - 52 centimeters, weight - 2.6 tons. The TRICOM1 satellite, which she was to put into orbit, was also small, weighing just over three kilograms at a height of 35 centimeters. The launch cost the Japanese aerospace agency about $ 3.5 million.
Production and launch of such a small rocket are significantly cheaper than the creation of large rockets, so the Japanese will probably soon restart the launch, after taking into account all the mistakes made today.
