Work on the NICA collider in Dubna is in full swing, but Russian physicists are not planning to limit it to just that. RIA Novosti, citing Evgeny Levichev, deputy director of the Siberian Institute, reports that specialists from various Russian research institutes are going to unite in order to implement their new project on the basis of the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Novosibirsk. We are talking about the creation of an electron-positron collider based on the Novosibirsk INP. At the moment, the Russian government has not allocated money for construction, but preparations for the project are in full swing. For this, the Institute of Nuclear Physics uses its own funds and grants.
“The first of six government-approved mega-science projects, the NICA collider, has been funded, and this gives us hope that our project will be implemented. In addition, we in Dubna discussed the merging of Russia's physical institutions for the implementation of such projects. I hope that having united we will have more potential to “break through” the project, ”Levichev explained.
BINP specialists from Novosibirsk are actively working on building the first NICA project, so the institute management expects to attract colleagues from other research institutes for the implementation of the Siberian project. Physicists hope that they will be able to convince the authorities of the need for state funding to build a unique electron-positron collider. With it, you can solve many different problems, but the cost, according to preliminary estimates, can be up to 27 billion rubles.
Levichev said that at the moment there are no such colliders in the world, therefore its creation on the basis of the Novosibirsk INP will help Russian scientists to occupy a promising niche.
