One of the main disadvantages of electric vehicles is, of course, the need to regularly recharge the battery. And despite the constant improvement of batteries, the range of electric vehicles is still far from ideal. But in the near future, charging cars can be carried out directly on the move from a special roadway. The first such road will soon appear in Tel Aviv thanks to the development of specialists from the company Electroad.
First of all, the bus lane will be “electrified”, and then another part of the road will be modified in this way. Laying is carried out using a special machine, which makes a trench with a depth of 8 centimeters, in which the induction coils are laid. After that, the area on top is covered with asphalt. Coils laid below the road surface ensure efficient operation of the system of wireless energy transfer to a height of up to 25 centimeters, while their radiation is not sufficient for the driver and passengers.

Currently, the wireless charging technology has already been tested in the laboratory of the Electroad company and on the 20-meter pilot road section near the laboratory. This technology has a lot of positives. For example, a full-size rechargeable battery for an electric bus weighs five tons and costs about 300 thousand dollars. If you refuse such a battery, the bus will become much easier and will consume less energy on its movement. According to Electroad Director Oren Ezer,
“Our technology is simple, flexible and scalable. For the laying of charging elements only copper and rubber are required, and the laying itself can be carried out quickly even on existing roads. In the future, we would like to transfer all electric vehicles in Israel to inductive charging technology in motion. In addition, our company received a research grant from the European Union, so similar electrified roads may soon appear in Europe. ”
