Japan and the United States are working to create a dispatcher service for drones

The number of drones above our heads has grown rapidly in recent years. Drones take pictures, shoot videos, with their help deliver packages and conduct sports. The very idea of creating a dispatcher service that controls the movement of drones in airspace, appeared a long time ago. But no one dared to start implementing such an ambitious project. None until today. The Japanese online store Rakuten together with AirMap start-up from the United States began to develop a dispatcher system for drones.

The main task of the system is simple: it is necessary to track the position of the drones in space and ensure that their trajectories do not intersect. Of course, speaking of large online stores like Rakuten, it becomes clear that they simply can’t do without such a system, given the huge amount of goods delivered daily. The Japanese plan to deliver goods to customers within an hour after placing the order - the task is very ambitious, but quite feasible.

If you think that the system being created will never go beyond the Land of the Rising Sun, then this is not so. The developers of AirMap agreed to take on the project also because in the future they plan to become a single dispatcher service for drones in the United States. However, before that, it will be necessary to obtain a certificate of the Federal Aviation Administration, without which it is impossible to control any air traffic. AirMap is able to control the flight of drones at a height not exceeding 152 meters, and the zone of responsibility of air traffic controllers already begins above. The future dispatching system will include detailed three-dimensional maps of cities, as well as algorithms for calculating the optimal flight paths from one point to another.

Behind the AirMap has extensive experience with UAVs. The algorithms they have created are currently used in 80% of consumer drones, including products from companies such as DJI, 3D Robotics, Yuneec, Sensefly, and others. In addition, D-NAS is used in 130 US airports, also developed by AirMap engineers to alert air traffic controllers to dangerously close drones.
