Comma.ai will give out autopilot equipment for free in exchange for data.

Hacker George Hotz, who spat on his project of universal auto pilots, suitable for any car, again decided to do business and made small boards called Panda with universal connectors that are suitable for almost all cars produced after 1996. Fees will be distributed free of charge in order to collect as much data as possible about the users, which will be useful for future developments of the company. The equipment will provide vehicles with relative autonomy, because through the ODB2 connector you can even send signals to the gas and brake pedals.

The company will not limit itself to collecting data and will offer various paid services, among which is the shutdown of advertising, which by default will be broadcast through the Comma.ai equipment. Hotz believes that this model will be able to become successful in the future. After all, it is much more profitable to distribute such equipment for free, while having access to some auto systems - so developers will have the opportunity to have a guaranteed advertising income.

At the end of last year, Comma.ai launched the Chffr application, whose most active users will receive bonus points and will eventually be able to exchange them for their own Panda board, which has a processor, Wi-Fi module and a charging connector for smartphones.
