In the summer, the parties did not disclose details about the project and did not name the dates, but now they announced that they would be ready to submit a working version of the convertoplan created on the basis of the prototype VRT30 as early as 2019, Rostec writes.
According to the developers, the main advantage of the convertoplan will be mobility and versatility. For takeoff and landing, he does not need a special platform or strip, he can rise into the air and sit vertically. The parties hope that in the future such aircraft will harmoniously fit into the urban environment in the form of cargo and passenger air taxi, for example.
“Today, together with our partners from SuperOx, we are developing a new flying laboratory for the convertoplan, in the onboard cable network of which high-temperature superconductivity technologies will be used, which will have a positive effect on the weight and size characteristics of the prototype,” said Andrey Helicopters holding general director Boginsky.
The basis for the new machine is a working prototype of an unmanned tiltrotor VRT30, which is equipped with a rotating mechanism of screws, which allows it to very quickly develop high speed, perform various tricks and hang in the air.
