Intel has proposed a formula to ensure the safety of unmanned vehicles.

"Responsibility, sensitivity, safety" - these three words describe their approach to creating artificial intelligence for unmanned vehicles by Intel engineers. Unmanned vehicles are slowly but surely entering our lives: they are being developed by such giants as Alphabet, Uber, GM, Tesla, Ford and other companies. Despite this, the safety of such vehicles is still a big question. And Intel decided to contribute to the common cause by creating a mathematical “safety formula” for self-driving cars.

The main issue of the safety of unmanned vehicles rests on a common standard that will guide all manufacturers without exception. And at Mobileye, owned by Intel, they understand this perfectly. The president of the company, Amnon Shashua, proposed a universal formula that can significantly improve the safety of driving unmanned vehicles. More information about the development of Mobileye in the official document at this link.

According to theory, an unmanned vehicle needs to know two things. The first is safety conditions when there is no risk of getting into an emergency. Even if other road users behave thoughtlessly. And the second parameter is the policy of identifying dangerous situations when the car will be able to make the right decision in order to return to the conditions of safe driving. The formula involves such variables as the average length of the vehicle, the response time to other road users, the speed of the cars in front and behind, the acceleration of traffic, and so on.
