Courier robots are no worse than flying drones, which is why many companies are testing ground-based delivery. Recently, their own robotic postmen have developed and began to experience in DHL. Robots are moving after people, acting as a kind of porters - mail bots can carry up to 150 kilograms of letters, parcels and newspapers.
Mail bots look like ordinary containers of one and a half meters in height, placed on wheels and capable of moving independently at maximum speed at a speed of up to six kilometers per hour - at about the same speed a person moves in a brisk pace.
Bots are equipped with sensors that allow them to fix and carefully go around obstacles and people. Now the main task of the robots is to follow the postmen-people and help to carry weights. But, probably, in the future they will be let alone. Testing of robots on the streets of Germany will last about two months.
Earlier, developers from Starship Technologies have developed and started testing robotic couriers on the streets of Estonian cities. They differ from their German colleagues by their small size and carrying capacity, but toddlers are able to move along the streets without human help.
