One of the startups is Canadian company X-Matic, which developed a system of five components that take control of the car.
The LaneCruise system consists of a central processor, a front-facing camera, a touch interface for the driver, and also a steering and pedal drive. Devices from the kit are placed on top of the existing auto controls and take all the driver's actions on him.
During the work, LaneCruise does not use GPS and various sensors, therefore its price is much lower than the more advanced analogues. Instead of a heap of sophisticated lidars and other things, LaneCruise is content only with a camera, which is mounted on the windshield and sends the captured information to the computer, which processes it and makes the necessary decision.
The developers emphasize that LaneCruise is primarily an assistant driver, but he cannot completely replace the person behind the wheel. In addition, the third level of autonomy LaneCruise will not allow the system to do without a driver, since it does not perceive the road without marking and cannot distinguish intersections if there are no cars on them.
Nevertheless, the Canadian assistant will be on sale in a year and a half or two, and its beta version will cost about $ 1,500.
