Tesla announced the cost of its electric tractor

Last week, Tesla's head Ilon Mask presented the sports Tesla Roadster and the fully electric Tesla Semi truck. And if, in terms of technical characteristics, Mask described in some detail both novelties and even announced the preliminary price for Tesla Roadster, the question of the cost of four Tesla Semi motor tractor with a power reserve of more than 800 kilometers on one charge for some reason was left out.

This problem was corrected by the official website of Tesla, which indicated the cost of the truck, which will be offered in three different versions. In addition, Tesla has already begun receiving pre-orders. So, the expected cost of the standard version of the tractor with a power reserve of 480 kilometers on one charge will be $ 150,000. The version with a power reserve of more than 800 kilometers will cost 180,000 dollars. In addition, it is planned to release the so-called version of the "Founders Series", each truck which will cost $ 200,000. The word "expected value" is used here for a reason. Thus, the company tries to keep for itself the field for maneuvers, before the announcement of the final cost.

If by the time of the official sale of the pricing policy has not undergone any special changes, then Tesla has the potential to impose a fairly serious competition to manufacturers of similar equipment. The cost of the same full-size diesel engines often reaches 120,000 dollars. The price seems to be lower, but at the same time the annual cost of servicing such machines can reach several tens of thousands of dollars. As for the electric Semi, according to Tesla, for maintenance and fuel for the entire period of operation of the electric tractor it will be possible to save more than 200 000 dollars.

The Tesla workhorse has attracted the attention of some freight transport companies. Western giants JB Hunt Transport Services, NFI Industries Bison Transport have already pre-ordered several Tesla Semi trucks. Interest was also attracted by retailers such as Walmart, Loblaw and Meijer, who also pre-ordered.

The first electric tractors Tesla Semis should go into production in 2019.
