Engineers have long been trying to create such a charger, which will allow people once and for all to get rid of the wires and the constant need to be near the outlet. Considering how many gadgets and electronic devices exist in our lives, we somehow have to regularly recharge them to stay in touch, keep abreast of the latest news, and not to part with your favorite music. A new charger WattUp, developed in the framework of the startup Energous, allows you to recharge several gadgets by air at a distance of more than 4 meters.
California-based Energous not only designed the device (it began work on it in 2014), but even received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), so it can easily release it for sale in North America . Wireless charging implies the absence of any wires, as well as the need to place your devices on special sites, as is the case with some models of modern smartphones. The gadget just needs to be within range of WattUp in order for its battery to be recharged.
Of course, this system operates by converting electricity to radio waves, therefore each charged device must be equipped with an appropriate receiver, which manufacturers can build in their products in the future. Also need support for devices charging standard Wireless Charging 2.0. To date, the maximum working radius of the charger is 4.5 meters (most effectively it operates at a distance of up to 1 meter). It is possible that Energous will eventually be able to improve this indicator. The novelty will be demonstrated for the first time to consumers at the exhibition of electronics CES 2018, which will begin on January 9, 2018.
