We have already mentioned a remarkable British (and now American) TV series "The Black Mirror", and also the fact that many of the ideas embedded in it are frighteningly often embodied in the surrounding reality. Not so long ago we wrote about the creation of artificial flowers, and now it became known that a large network of US hypermarkets Walmart plans to produce artificial bees.
The technical name of future devices is "drones-pollinators", and they perform almost all functions of real bees. The main task of these drones is, as it is easy to guess, pollination of plants. According to many experts, if the population of bees will decrease at the same rate as today, in some 15-20 years they may not remain at all. And the absence of bees is not only the absence of honey. It is also the death of hundreds of plant species, and, after them, the extinction of entire ecosystems.
But back to the "robocops": for the realization of pollination, the drones will use sensors, sensors and cameras, as well as a navigation system. They will work in a limited area, flying for it to transfer pollen. Moreover, along with them will work robots that will identify and destroy pests of plants. Representatives of Walmart have already filed a patent for their devices (and in addition to the two above, there are 4 more robotic assistants who will help in the work of drone pollinators) to the US Patent and Trademark Office.
