What do you need in order to prepare food? Naturally, the products! In fact, in a few years the answer may not be so unambiguous. Indeed, recently in the framework of the conference Experimental Biology 2018 a group of scientists from South Korea introduced a home 3D printer for food, which can print food according to personal preferences, as well as the peculiarities of the metabolism of each individual person.
Researchers have assembled a device that can reproduce the physical properties and nanoscale texture of food products, using nutrient powder ingredients for this. Powder is manufactured as follows: nutrients (mainly proteins and carbohydrates) are crushed with cryogenic grinding at a temperature of minus 100 degrees Celsius. After this, under the influence of pressure, high temperatures and water, the contents turn into a porous film.
The very process of "cooking" does not differ much from the already introduced into our life 3D-printing. "The printer-cook" imposes nutrients in layers, after which the texture of the product is printed on top. When the seal is finished - the product is ready for use or further processing. Scientists hope that their invention will be in demand in the future, because, according to experts, by 2050 the world population will increase to 10 billion people. And this way of cooking can save many people from hunger, as well as reduce the cost of shipping, storage and transportation. According to one of the authors of the invention, the associate professor of the department of Ewha Womans University, Jin-
"Our development will allow us to create food products with the necessary nutrient content at a controlled rate of digestion and composition. With the help of 3D printing, the dishes can be created in accordance with the user's needs and be the most useful for his health. "
