In July 2017 it became known that the company RED is working on a smartphone with a "holographic" screen. In this case, the details were announced quite a bit. With the release of new items on the market, the company told more about it. Moreover, a video of more than five minutes, featuring the Hydrogen One smartphone, also appeared on the Web.
A few months ago, RED Digital Cinema announced the Hydrogen One smartphone. For the first time, this camera-manufacturing company decided to offer its own smart phone on the market. In more detail, the prospects for new and prehistory of the technology were reviewed by Scott Adam Gordon on the androidauthority.com resource pages .
In July 2017, the device was referred to as the “world's first“ holographic ”smartphone,” but then very little was known about it. And now the company RED issued a press release, revealing several more details of its upcoming release of new items.
RED works in partnership with Leia Inc. on the creation of a display that combines Leia’s proprietary screen technology and a software platform that are said to make mobile entertainment what they haven’t been before.
Leia, as noted additionally, has a nano-photon design and production capabilities that allow mobile devices to be completed with “holographic” displays. These screens are based on LCD technology.
Hydrogen One will be able to project holographic images from the screen. It will be like augmented reality. It seems that these “holographic” objects will be located on top of the screen of the new device, just as the car and the cone are located above the display in a video concept shown by Leia back in 2015.
Regardless of how the technology will work - as mentioned above, or it will just be a screen effect similar to that implemented in the Nintendo 3DS - the device has the necessary potential to become one of the most impressive developments in the smartphone industry in many years The new technology also provides new opportunities for its use - it can, for example, be used for 3D maps. The technologies of virtual and augmented reality have been around for more than a year, and it is possible that it is in the new RED smartphone that they will finally be expressed in something interesting for a wider audience of users. The new development is focused primarily on its use for digital entertainment.
Consumers can pre-order a Hydrogen One smartphone on the official RED website. The device in the aluminum case costs 1195 US dollars, while the price of Hydrogen One in the titanium case is 1595 US dollars. However, the prices for models of the novelty were called earlier. But users can only hold the device with a “holographic” screen in their hands in the first half of 2018, as RED also points out.
Additionally, YouTube user Marques Brownlee posted a rather long video clip, which discusses the prototype Hydrogen One. It is noted that the upcoming novelty is equipped with a 5.7-inch display. At the bottom there is a headphone jack, and on the back of the device you can see its dual camera. The moment of using the screen on this video is blurred, so you can not see how it will look
